5 Self-Care Routines to Start Doing Now
We all have busy lives and long lists of things to do. A lot of times we put our jobs, the kids and house work before ourselves but we need to start putting ourselves first sometimes too. When we take care of ourselves, we have more energy, sleep better, get more done and have better attitudes towards it all. Taking care of yourself is an act of love and it shows gratitude toward your creator for giving you this body. We are given amazing food to nourish our bodies, a beautiful earth to move upon, and water to drink - these are gifts from God.
Here are some routines to add to your day to improve your health so you can better express life and gratitude toward what you have been given.
1. Eat Good Food
You deserve to eat yummy, healthy food prepared in a nutritious way. Make time to plan out your meals, shop for easy to prepare ingredients and take time to cook with your family. If you do not know how to cook, teach yourself with the help of Pinterest, Youtube or the Cooking Channel. And please teach your children how to cook so they can grow into healthy adults.
2. Get Up and MOVE
Your body craves movement. If you are stiff or achey in the mornings, try stretching or pick up a yoga class. If you have injured yourself or have chronic pain seek out a chiropractor or get a massage to help your body heal and reduce long term damage like decreased range of motion or arthritis.
3. Drink Clean Water
Water is the elixir of life so drink at least half of your body weight in ounces every day. This can be a challenge for some especially with the harsh taste of public tap water. Try filtering your water with a Berkey filter or have it delivered already filtered. I like to add essential oils to my water to change it up a bit and it’s energizing. One drop of a citrus essential oil in a 32 ounce glass or stainless steele water bottle will give you some flavor and cleanse your liver on a daily basis.
4. Handle Stress Better
We all encounter stressful situations almost daily - from getting your kids up and ready for school to taking care of aging parents. Nothing can take these situations away but how we respond to them is something you have control over. When we allow ourselves down time, even just 20 minutes a day, we can handle stress with more ease and grace. I like to diffuse calming essential oils like Serenity or Bergamot or take a bath with Frankincense and Balance to recenter and give myself a break.
5. Schedule time for YOU
We must schedule time for ourselves - literally put yourself in your planner. Whether you want to take up pottery, go on a vacation or spend the day in the woods - plan it! Our days are short and busy but some how we find time to do for others. Make 2020 about YOU! Whatever makes you happy, make it happen…no more excuses!
